Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc.: Scare Island has a lot to live up to, given the success of the 2001 animated film Monsters, Inc. The plot is played out in clips shown from the movie each time you earn medals, an element that gives incentive while providing lots of fun. The entire game, or at least the part you actually play, consists of levels that train you to scare kids, but in a lighthearted, fun way.
I've found an InstallShield 5 (x86) launcher and I had to copy over the CD-ROM files from my copy of Monsters Inc. Scare Island and I had to copy the 'Setup(dot)exe' IS5 launcher into the Minc folder I made on my external hard disk. This is the action game based on the movie from Disney/Pixar, 'Monsters Inc.' You play as either Sully (the big hairy monster) or Mike (the small green 'walking eye'). The goal of the game is to become Masters of Scare. The first level is training, where you learn movement and how to scare someone. Monsters Inc: Scare Island: Extended Edition is a remake of Monsters Inc: Scare Island. Scream Team is a platform game published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation, PC, and later the PlayStation 2. It is a prequel to Pixar's 2001 film, Monsters, Inc. And takes place after Monsters University. The game was released in the United States in 2001, and in the PAL region in 2002, under the name Monsters, Inc. Scare Island.1 In 2011, the title was made.
In order to see all of the video clips from the movie, you have to get three medals, bronze, silver, and gold, for all 12 areas in the game. While not physically or mentally difficult, count on taking quite a few hours to complete the process. Controls are simple, with arrow keys for movement and specific keys to jump and attack. Destroying toys isn't mandatory, but using your special moves to do so is occasionally fun. If you're hit five times by a toy, you lose a life, but with so many extra lives scattered around the levels, it really doesn't matter. Falling down a bottomless pit is the same as getting hit by a toy, so dying isn't a serious concern.
A challenging aspect of the game, and one that adds enjoyment rather than nuisance value, is the requirement to revisit levels to reach areas not accessible on the first time through. Special items (trampoline, speed arrows, and flingshots) are needed to access some areas, and you have to earn them by getting a certain number of medals. Once accomplished, you have to return to already completed levels to find new items; thus each level retains a bit of mystery for future play.
Your primary goal is to scare kids, but instead of the real deal, Scare Island is populated by robot kids known as Nerves. To achieve the goal, Mike and Sulley need to collect ooze, which is measured by a meter, to attain 'scare mode.' When the meter is filled, both characters use unique scare tactics that are more humorous than scary, such as Mike poking his one eye and yelling 'Ow!' or Sulley doing a disco dance while growling. The mode is funny and Nerves are easy to scare, even those with higher ratings. Gameplay involves repeatedly mashing a designated button for the number of times required to scare the targeted Nerve -- the higher the rating, the more button mashing.
The dozen areas are grouped into three environments: city, desert, and arctic. After each area, you have to race Randall Boggs in order to collect monster tokens and advance. But, you can challenge him at any time during the game with an unlimited number of attempts. Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc.: Scare Island may not be challenging enough for older kids, but it's still amusing and filled with all sorts of items and places to explore.
Following the actual plotlines of the movie would have enhanced the game, such as giving you the opportunity to stop Randall's evil scheme, but the simple design is built around letting Mike and Sulley practice to be Top Scarers. Scare Island is not too challenging, and there's no violence other than the breaking of toys, but gameplay is fun and allows fans of the characters to extend their enjoyment just a bit more.
Graphics: Great representation of the characters and movie clips, with virtually no graphical errors. Action does slow a bit when the screen is too crowded, but doesn't affect gameplay.
Sound: Background music is a bit silly and plays off of the action during the game. Actual cast members from the movie provide some of the voices.

Enjoyment: The three levels you play are all training, so you always have the feeling you're going to get some 'real' levels. Still, it's a fun-filled monster school setting, and the three areas have variety and depth.
Replay Value: It's possible to beat the game by attaining all the bronze medals, but you'll have to go back to the same levels again to get silver and gold. Technically, you have to beat the game three times to finish.

Monsters, Inc. Scream Team [released as Monsters, Inc. Scare Island in Europe (and only PC version in the United States[1])] is a platform game published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation, Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 2 based on the 2001 animated film Monsters, Inc.. It was released in the United States in 2001 and in the PAL region in 2002. In 2011, the game was made available on the PlayStation Store for download. The game received mixed reviews.
Gameplay[edit]
The game begins with an orientation program hosted by Roz, who shows the monsters the basics of their training. The levels are divided among three training grounds located on Scare Island. With names hinting at the nature of their design, the Urban Training Grounds, Desert Training Grounds and Arctic Training Grounds contain four areas to be explored. Each region ranges in scenery from a city park to a frozen lake, and players can choose to play as either Sulley or Mike, with each monster having different moves and scare abilities. Each level's loading screen features a picture of either Mike or Sulley to show who is recommended for the level.
The objective of the game is to successfully scare all the robot children (known as 'Nerves') on the island and graduate from monster training with top honors. This is accomplished by collecting bronze, silver and gold medals that are awarded throughout the game. The bronze medal is required to complete a level and can be obtained by scaring five Nerves; this also unlocks a short clip from the movie. A silver medal can be obtained by finding and collecting 10 'Monsters, Inc.' Tokens scattered through a level. A gold medal can be obtained by scaring all eight Nerves in a level. Obtaining the four bronze medals in each training ground unlocks a hidden item that may help the player reach previously unreachable areas.
Items used include Extra Try Tokens (which give extra lives to the player), Monsters, Inc. Tokens (which earn silver medals for every ten collected) and Primordial Ooze (the substance that gives the monsters their scare power). The random Bag O' Calories increases health, while mailboxes provide tips and information to assist the player. Nerves and items may be hidden, but can be discovered by searching in and around boxes and other objects.[2]
The overall gameplay is the same across all three versions. The PS2 version features better graphics and extra voice clips and scaring abilities.

Mike and Sulley are hand picked by Waternoose to go to Waternoose's private training facility, Scare Island, in order to train to become top scarers. Scaring human children serves the purpose of generating energy for the monsters' society. As explored in the movie, human children are believed to be highly dangerous, even toxic, to monsters. This is the cause for the game's setting being a simulation.
Voice cast[edit]
Neither Mike nor Sulley are voiced by their original voice actors (Billy Crystal and John Goodman respectively). However, the rest of the film's voice cast does return.[3]
